Eye Test Examination

Eye Test and Eye Examinations Explained

A thorough eye test will be carried out by our experienced Optometrist. A careful evaluation of any history and symptoms will initially be taken, together with an accurate assessment of the patient’s needs and requirements. At Lytham Eyewear Opticians, you can rest assured that our thorough eye examinations provide a reassuringly accurate assessment of your vision.

Your eye is the fastest moving muscle in your body, that’s why we say in the blink of an eye

But when it comes to your eye test, you’ll find we don’t do things in the blink of an eye. When you come through our doors, we’ll sit you down and make you feel calm and relaxed – we’ll never rush you or put you under any kind of pressure.

We are committed to providing the very best quality when it comes to eye examinations and dedicate sufficient time to all patients to ensure the very best in eye care.

A standard eye examination lasts for approximately half an hour and the Optician will use a range of tests tailored to your individual needs. Your Optician will provide step-by-step explanations so you know exactly what is involved at each stage.

Why should I have an eye exam?

Having clear, comfortable vision is paramount, so we always ensure that we provide an accurate assessment of your vision. Regular eye examinations also gauge the general health of your eyes and can result in the early identification of other eye problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

Should I have an eye exam on a regular basis?

Whatever your age, we recommend that you have an eye examination at least every two years. For children and people aged over 70, we recommend an eye test every year, or more often if recommended by your Optician.

The Eye Examination

Includes a full ocular health check with tests that establish the presence of conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts and macula degeneration. Systemic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure can also be detected. An assessment of the patient’s prescription is made and their visual requirements are fully discussed.

Dry Eye

Is now a commonplace occurrence, with the increased use of VDUs at work, environmental and other factors. Dry eye affects the front surface of the eye, leading to discomfort and visual problems. At Lytham Eyewear, we offer a range of products to manage dry eye conditions.

Medical Conditions

Did you know your eye exam could also flag up other medical conditions – like high blood pressure, risk of stroke and even some brain tumours? We’ll look for any signs of these, as part of our routine examination of your eyes.

What is involved in an eye examination?

You can rest assured that although having an eye test is a very straightforward process, all of our examinations are very thorough. Lasting approximately half an hour, our optician will look closely at all aspects of your vision and eye health.

A few questions will be asked about your sight, general health, your family’s health and your lifestyle. There are lots of different tests that can be carried out during your eye examination, so your Optician will tailor this to suit your individual needs. While testing your eyes, the Optician will look at the following;

VISION QUALITY

  • Unaided and aided vision (with any glasses or contact lenses you already use).
  • Eye muscle performance and health.
  • Internal eye health.
  • Front of eye health, including eye fluid pressure.
  • Further tests for depth perception, colour vision and visual field may also be performed if required.
  • Your Optician will provide step-by-step explanations so you know exactly what is involved at each stage.

Good, Clear Vision

It is essential for normal development of the eye. This usually takes place up to the age of 7 years. Poor vision in children can their affect learning and progress. At Lytham Eyewear we recommend regular eye examinations for children. Children under 16 are entitled to a free NHS eye exam. Students under 19 and in full time education are also entitled to this exemption. If spectacles are required, an NHS voucher will help towards the cost of the spectacle lenses.
